My first visit to Cabo Rojo was at 6 months old, according to my parents. As both worked in the government, the stay was in the cabins of Boqueron. From then on, Cabo Rojo became my second home.
We went to the cabins 4 times a year for a week or two. There I discovered the fiddlers (jueyito violinista) and I got muddy to the knee with black mangrove soil and stinky in order to put the jueyitos in a cup.
My holidays in Boqueron were magical. I invited friends, cousins, we hanged uout if we thought we were big. As an adult, I went to Boqueron at least once a month. At that time I was a lawyer in the Department of Justice and had as a client the: “El Negro” Santos, Mayor of Cabo Rojo. I met his family and friends, extremely charistamic human being.
I went camping to Combate with friends and we stayed in camping tents in the Salinas. Watching the sunrise and the brand new sunset in Combate has always been, and continues to be, my favorite moment.
In 1994 and 1998 my parents bought properties in Combate. So I’ve been going to Cabo Rojo regularly for almost 30 years.
ll the beaches in Cabo Rojo are beautiful!!! Buye, Boqueron, Combate, Guaniquilla, Puerto Real, las Salinas; the people from Cabo are wonderful, the business, the food, the multicolored flag everywhere.
Finally, but to emphasize my beloved Playuela (the beach of the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse) that for me is the most mesmerizing spectacle. The Lighthouse perches majestically on a frighteningly fascinating cliff… the beach, in the shape of a horseshoe, caresses that tip of the southwest and its secluded coast and seduced by the wind promotes a great serenity. It is a Puerto Rican wonder.
In any event, even though my whole Island is gorgeous, Cabo Rojo is my favorite place.
